Bicycle Banks

ANK found that many of the girls in its target villages lived between four to seven kilometers away from the nearest high school, preventing them from continuing their education beyond the 7th standard.

In efforts to curb these school drop-out rates and arrest child marriages, ANK’s set up a Bicycle Bank initiative which aimed to increase enrollment by providing high school aged girls with bicycles.

Over the years, the program has proved extremely successful. Over 1000 bicycles have been donated to village girls going to high school. The Bicycle Bank has provided a revolutionary model in the field of development for the education of the rural girl child and has been featured on national and international television programs and in the media.
